MERIDA CATHEDRAL
Oldest on the American mainland. Its somber facade fronts a nave, housing an impressive wooden cross, alter and venerated blistered Christ.
Golf and tennis is a 20 minute drive to the 18 hole private Ceiba Club golf course located between Merida and Progreso. Fishing is a daily occupation for locals. Fresh seafood cooked Yucatecan or Mayan style in banana leaves is wonderful, and economical.
Many Mayan archeological sites and ruins abound on the Yucatan Peninsula. CASTILLO NICTE HA villa is centrally located to many of them. Chichen Itza,Uxmal, Mayapan are about a 1 ½ hour drive from the Villa. Dzibilchaltun is a 20 minute drive.
Explore small villages, colonial towns; dive cenotes, caves, fine dine at Hacienda's and visit churches and convents, remnants of a bygone Spanish cultural evolution era. The roads are good.
PROGRESSO
The town of Progreso features a nice beach, jetski rentals, and other water sport options. Marina has fishing rentals. There's an extensive crafts market near the pier as well as other tourist shopping along the town's streets. There are several restaurants along the beach road that serve drinks (and/or food) at tables and palapas situated right on the expansive beach. There are two Supermarkets for those that are not adventurous enough to purchase their food at the Mexican open-air markets.

BOAT EXCURSIONS AND BEACHES
Boat excursions to fresh water jungle springs nearby. People and children are shy and friendly. For those wanting a tranquil vacation with miles and miles of sandy shell covered beaches without crowds or traffic, this is for you. The Ocean is quiet, shallow, no high waves , great for children..You can swim all winter, the water temperature is comfortable.
